Nagriksatta Ward 63 Association (NSWA)

Nagriksatta Ward 63 Association (NS) is an NGO registered with the Charity Commissioner, established by the Citizen’s Movement of Juhu, in order to take forward the objectives of local, decentralised governance in Juhu Municipal Ward 63.  This followed a successful campaign by local citizen’s groups of this area to implement the 73rd and 74th amendment of the Indian constitution in its true spirit by taking the first step at electing a citizen’s Corporator Mr.  Adolf D’Souza during the 2007 municipal elections.

Sarva Shikshan Abhiyan (SSA) is a central government initiative to ensure primary education for all (universal primary education) and incorporates mechanisms for local monitoring via school monitoring committee (SMC) comprising of prominent citizens from the neighbourhood connected to various aspects of learning and education for municipal and government aided schools.

In the education field NS along with SSA’s SMC has initiated various measures since mid 2007 in order to improve the quality of learning in the various Municipal Schools in the ward and in particular entered into a support programme with the Gandhigram Municipal School. 

Since June 2008 NSWA has started and is successfully managing the Mumbai Public School at Juhu.

Children are provided with quality all round education with emphasis on spoken and written English, Math, Art and Craft. Marathi too has been introduced in the primary section.  Importance of hygiene, knowledge about our culture, traditions, discipline and core civic and moral values is imparted through fun sessions by a team of capable and competent teacher volunteers who are driven by their passion.

To provide every child with world class, quality education and to create a safe, conducive environment to facilitate learning, growth and ensure a holistic and all rounded development.


OBJECTIVES 
  1. To empower every child with the ability to read, write and converse in fluent English. 
  2. To lay a strong and sound academic foundation as well as adequate exposure to physical training, sports, art, craft, dance, music to ensure all round development. 
  3. To garner the support of the community and utilize all the resources available to facilitate quality education.  
  4. To ensure increase in school enrolment every successive year and improve attendance levels.   
  5. To build a strong relationship with the parents and have an active parent teacher association.  
  6. To evolve a sustainable and practical model which can be replicated in other Municipal Schools of our Ward and subsequently other Wards.
